LANDSCAPING IN SEVENOAKS

Kentish Construction creates practical, well-built gardens in Sevenoaks and across nearby Kent. Our landscaping work ranges from patios, steps and retaining walls to drainage, driveways and complete garden transformations. We look beyond the surface finish: good preparation, sensible levels and controlled water are what allow an outdoor space to perform well over time.

What landscaping work do you undertake?

Our agreed scope can include site clearance, excavation, ground preparation, patios, paths, steps, retaining walls, raised beds, brickwork, concrete bases, turfing, fencing and drainage. We also undertake driveway and access work where appropriate. Projects can be delivered from a landscape designer's drawings or developed with the homeowner during a site visit, depending on their complexity.

How do you prepare for a new patio?

A patio is only as good as the build-up beneath it. We assess the existing ground, finished levels, door thresholds and where surface water will go. Soft or unsuitable material is removed before a properly compacted sub-base and suitable bedding system are installed. The paving is laid to controlled falls, with edges and movement details considered. The specification changes with the paving type and site; there is no single build-up that suits every garden.

Do you install porcelain paving?

Yes. Porcelain is popular because it offers a consistent appearance, low water absorption and a broad range of finishes. It needs correct handling, a suitable primer and full support beneath each slab. The joints, falls and cuts around steps, walls and drainage channels must be planned carefully. We can also lay natural stone where its colour and character are better suited to the property.

Can you build retaining walls and garden steps?

Yes. We build brick, block and other retaining structures as part of wider landscaping schemes. Retaining walls need to be designed for the height, loading, ground and water behind them; drainage is especially important. Significant walls or walls close to buildings and boundaries may require structural design or other approvals. Steps are planned with safe, consistent risers and treads and tied into the surrounding levels.

Can you deal with garden drainage?

We can install practical surface-water measures such as channel drains, land drainage and suitable falls where they are part of the project. The correct solution depends on soil, levels, existing drainage and where water can lawfully discharge. Water should not simply be directed onto a neighbour's land or allowed to sit against the house. Where the drainage issue is complex, specialist advice or a designed solution may be needed.

Can landscaping be combined with an extension or garden room?

Yes, and coordinating the work often produces a better result. With an extension, patio levels and drainage can be planned around the new thresholds from the outset. With a garden room, foundations, service routes, paths and the surrounding terrace can be sequenced as one project. This avoids lifting new paving later to install cables or correct levels.

How is a landscaping project priced?

We price from the agreed layout, areas, levels and material choices. Access, waste removal, excavation depth and retaining structures can have as much effect on cost as the paving itself. Our quotation sets out the scope and stated allowances. If conditions underground cannot be known before excavation, we explain that risk and deal with any necessary variation clearly.
